At my seminars and talks I’m often asked, “What’s the secret to success?” This prompted me to share the following 10 Most Powerful Success Secrets which you can apply daily for the next 30 days and onward making them part of your success DNA.
Regardless of what you wish to master, make them your daily meditation. Apply these principles until they become habit, seeking ways of application relevant to your situation, career or business. I assure you that you will produce tangible results in the next few weeks and months ahead.
1. SLEEP IS OVERRATED
Most people sleep in excess of 8 hours daily. Sadly this is a massive waste of precious time. “Time is money”. So unless you are earning in your sleep, you had better rise and shine. Less sleep translates into more time to pursue your goals. All champions are early risers. Most wake before 5am daily, 7 days a week, some sleeping just 4 to 6 hours a night.
2. YOU TIME
“You time” refers to the time you spend investing in yourself. Its the time immediately after waking up. Its about spending at least an hour a day in study in your field, solitude and silence or in prayer and meditation. Read something inspirational, motivational or educational. This is best just before sunrise because your phone wont be ringing, the TV will be off and your family will probably be asleep. You can get focused without distractions and make massive progress while your competitors sleep.
3. TIME MANAGEMENT
Elite performers are pedantic about their time. They “spend” it wisely. All their activities are geared towards their primary goal. Every meeting or call is highly focused on the outcomes they are in pursuit of. They do not entertain distractions whatsoever. Their time is spent in line with their objectives. They work their time and don’t time their work.
4. EAT LIKE A CHAMPION
I’ve not met any super achievers whose diets only comprise of hamburgers, fries, pizza and chocolate milkshakes yet. Have you? Champions, eat like champions. They see food as fuel. They consume energizing foods and drink lots of water to keep hydrated and functioning at world class levels. They also top up on first class multivitamins, health smoothies and green tea through the day to keep them going on and on and on…change your eating by being regular and conscious. Goodness in, greatness out.
5. WORK OUT FOR THE OLYMPICS OF YOUR LIFE
Most elite performers are as committed to their physical health as to their business. Whether they run, cycle or swim, play in individual sports or group sports they get that a healthy body leads to a healthy mind. When you are in peak physical condition you have a gait in your step, an assured confidence and the mindset acquired in the gym, on the track or field. This mindset includes; discipline, hard work, no pain, no gain thinking etc. They know that in the olympics of life, only the “fittest” shall survive.
6. PLAN WELL
Successful people plan really well. They don’t only fixate on the best case scenario (Plan A). They have Plans B, C, D, E and F. They understand that there are always circumstances outside of their control like foreign exchange. A small margin in either direction could result in millions of dollars lost. Factors like the weather can ruin a business. A tornado storm may keep customers at home and not shopping. This means lots of lost revenue. Other factors like competitors launching before you etc. There are so many scenarios to consider. How do the beat these? They plan for almost every eventuality.
7. BECOME ACTION ORIENTED
Results come from action. Winners are not wishers. They take daily, consistent actions to drive home their goals. Too many people who want success, fail themselves by not taking consistent actions. They think that thought alone will lead to manifestation. Whether you are trying to lose weight, sell more, save more etc. it all comes together when your actions are congruent with your plans.
8. KEEP SCORE
In every sport, in business, at a TV or radio station, they keep score to measure their success. Keeping score of progress toward your goal, will give you real time feedback about what changes you need to make. Measurement is management, so keep measuring.
9. STAY INSPIRED
Rome was not built in day. Neither was any of the hip brands we associate with daily. Don’t become despondent because you are not seeing immediate progress. Sometimes we have to appreciate the stage we are at. Some seeds take 3 weeks to produce fruit (tomato’s) and others take years, like apple trees. So how to stay inspired? Listen within, take advice from your mentors and coaches. Focus on your success and not your challenges. Read of the challenges and successes of others who have overcome them and take inspiration from them to succeed.
10. WINNERS NEVER QUIT
No matter how difficult the task on hand, “winners never quit and quitters never win”. The power of intelligent persistence has proven to be invaluable in the pursuit of success. Those who quit, leave with the bitter taste of failure in their mouths, while those who persist savor the sweet taste of success. The choice is always yours.
