GOING FROM VAGABOND TO SALES PRO…

The life of a sales professional can often be a lonely one.  Even when working in teams, we are each individually fully responsible for our results.

Needless to say the top sales professionals are often flying high, inspired and motivated while those challenged are doubtful and their minds start playing mind tricks on them.  Their self talk becomes negative, they end up having negative expectations and by law, not by chance, it comes to pass.  

Today I want to share with you the mindset and mental fitness you need when facing a sales slump and the demons are out to get you.  NEUROPLASTICITY!

Your incredible brain has the ability to create new neural pathways and alter existing ones in order to adapt to new experiences, learn new information and create new memories.  

How can this be achieved?

Think in pictures:  By holding in your mind the goal as achieved.  See nothing else.

Think quality thoughts:  Think EXCLUSIVELY of your achievement.

Choose your words:  Using only the words which celebrate and do not negate your achievement.

Choose your associates:  Stick with those people who will support, serve and assist your achievement.

Never quit:  Winners NEVER quit and quitters never win.

This practice of neuroplasticity has been adopted by psychology, sport and business and has been practised in every major religion for thousands of years long before it had a name.  Think about the monks of every faith, praying, chanting, studying, remembering and only speaking about the Creator.  If a vagabond could become a saintly person then surely a sales person can become a sales professional through the same principles of neuroplasticity.

In parting I want to leave you with a gem:  “IF ITS TO BE, IT IS UP TO ME…ALL THAT MATTERS IS THAT I WIN TODAY”.  Dont worry about yesterday or tomorrow.  Make neuroplasticity a habit and sow seeds that will yield successful results and surely success will come knocking on your door.

MONDAY MENTAL PROTEIN: Investing in your greatest asset; YOU

Most people consider their home, cars, investment properties or investment portfolio’s as their greatest asset.  I beg to differ.  The greatest asset is standing in your shoes right now; YOU!  You, the asset created the other assets through a combination of work, intellect, investment etc.  Without you, the other assets were never attainable.

One small investment in yourself will yield countless personal and professional successes, like the apple seed and the apple tree farm.  Yes! from one small apple seed you can yield an apple orchard.  Your self development is, was and will always be in your hands and your hands alone.

Sadly most people finish school or university, find a job which they learn in the first year and then they stop learning and growing.  They stop growing and learning and they wonder why they are not producing the results of their peers who are steamrolling through life, hitting home runs at work, health, wealth, relationships and are ever increasingly successful.

THE SECRET is out…If you do not invest in yourself why should anyone else?  Today, evaluate in which areas you have stopped growing and challenge yourself to make that endeavour.  Personal and professional development will keep you at the cutting edge of living your best life.

MONDAY MENTAL PROTEIN: THE POWER OF CONSCIOUS POSITIVE THINKING

We are all products of our past thoughts.  Be it good, bad or ugly past thoughts, here you are.  Are you trapped by limiting beliefs, low self esteem, self sabotaging or are you suffering the hamster in the wheel syndrome?  Call it what you want, it ain’t pretty.  You have had, and missed some wonderful opportunities and what once looked like a garden of roses, soon turned into a garden of thorns.  What now?  Where to from here?

What if you truly understood and mastered the art of “POSITIVE THINKING”?  By no means am I advocating wishy-washy, airy-fairy delusions.  I mean principles based on thousands of years of philosophy, psychology, religiosity and business practices.

I’m a great believer in universal principles for success. Today I want to share with you THE POWER OF CONSCIOUS POSITIVE THINKING“.  In no means or way am I implying that you can lay in bed and think yourself thin, beautiful and rich by applying the THE POWER OF CONSCIOUS POSITIVE THINKING alone.  What I am implying is that if you change your thinking, you will change your results.  You will bring new opportunities, relationships and circumstances your way.  It takes a CONSCIOUS effort though.  Here is a sample of this timeless wisdom…

GLORY TO THE SALES PEOPLE: They make the world go round…

While you may protest initially you must agree, both you and I, we are all sales men and women.  Even though you may not earn a living off sales, you do sell daily.  Your customers include your kids, your spouse, your staff, your employer etc.  When you proposed to marry her, you sold her a dream and when you got appointed at your new job, you sold them your skills.  We are ALL sales people.

Today I want you to appreciate those people who directly turn world economies.  I want to celebrate the unsung hero’s of listed company’s, the hero’s who help to pay taxes, the hero’s who create jobs…SALES MEN & WOMEN!!!

CEO’s have vision and strategy. Operations execute. Finance handles the $’s. Administration pushes the paper. SALESMEN & SALESWOMEN, they make the world go round. Without YOU there is NO business.

Until YOU sell, all the other departments have very little relevance. Against the odds, in the face of rejection, against TOUGH competition and in unfavorable economic conditions YOU are the unsung hero of world economies.

MONDAY MENTAL PROTEIN: The Art of Focus

There are undisputedly several ingredients in the recipe of success.  Without this key ingredient, the best of plans and intentions will not succeed.  Even the best of camera’s is useless without this one critical factor; FOCUS!!!   

Wikipedia defines FOCUS as follows:  “Focus (cognitive process), selectively concentrating on one aspect of the environment while ignoring other things”

 In this age of constant distraction; media, social media, entertainment etc. focus is often lacking in the best of success plans.  Most people are too distracted to focus on anything else and when their goals are not achieved, frustration sets in. Today I want to share with you the art of applying massive focus on your goals!

A great man once said “Learn from the experts.  You don’t have the time to re-invent the wheel”  There are so many experts around us today to learn from.  Here is one I often refer to, Tiger Woods who said it so appropriately:  “My main focus is on my game.”  Tiger’s focus sure shows in his results doesn’t it?  He is after all the worlds number one golfer and probably one of the greatest golfers of all time.  Is he spending countless hours on social media satisfying his curiosity and satisfying his whimsical mind?  Of course not!  Is he procrastinating with lesser value activities?  Of course not!  He is drilling, rehearsing and practicing on the course and off the course with MASSIVE FOCUS!!!

Most people believe they are highly focused yet when you analyze their time spent on wasteful or unimportant activities, the truth soon surfaces.  The Art of focusing is within your reach if you really want it.  Here are some ideas you can apply today in the pursuit of your goals:

  1. Have crystal clarity of purpose. Why, Who, What, When etc.
  2. Take 100% responsibility
  3. BELIEVE – you can
  4. Keep your eyes on the goal – you cant shoot a target you cant see.  Engage your targets, keep them in “sight”
  5. See only the “Bulls Eye” – FOCUS your lens
  6. Concentrate all your energies (thoughts, sounds, mind, intelligence, words etc.) on only the task at hand; your target and nothing else – Fine focus, tune in
  7. Don’t get distracted by the “noises” from the outside – tune out the noise
  8. Become pedantic – Stay with it, take action until achieved…successfully – The stillness pervades
  9. BANG!!! – Mission accomplished
  10. Commit to improving your focus daily – Become the most focused person you know

The selective focusing “on one aspect of the environment while ignoring other things” alone will enhance if not skyrocket  your results.  You could double your income, make more sales or achieve much more than you have in the past by mastering your focus.   Here are some tools you can use to practice this skill:

  1. Fire in the belly – You must be inspired daily to succeed
  2. Start a “To do list”
  3. Break down tasks into bite sizes
  4. Complete and tick them off sequentially
  5. Celebrate minor victories
  6. Make your “To do list”a habit
  7. Intensify your efforts, get more done quicker
  8. Be relentless, never quit

MONDAY MENTAL PROTEIN: Your Inner Game of Success – Mastering the Tools

So its day 7 of possibly the best year of your life and if you read “MONDAY MENTAL PROTEIN: Your Inner Game of Success” and you really want to make this the best year of your life yet, then its time to master some of the tools and tips I want to share with you.  Here are some of the greatest ideas for your mastery:

To work on your Self-esteem or how you feel about yourself: 

  • Set meaningful goals that inspire you

  • Hold in your mind a clear vision of your goal accomplishment

  • Apply the law of association – hangout with people who inspire your greatness and achievement
  • Write, learn and repeat your favorite affirmations daily to fuel you 
  • Take massive action.  Be insanely productive 
  • Manage your time well
  • Constantly invest in yourself – (learn to earn)
  • Stop to celebrate your victories along the way
  • Never stop believing in yourself

This process will result in some initial gains which will lead to bigger victories, thus increasing your feelings of self esteem.  Stick with it even when it seems impossible.  Remember, “If its to be, it is up to me”.  “Winners never quit and quitters never win”!

Self-image or how you see yourself :

  • Get out of YOUR own way.  You are the only person holding you back from your glory
  • Establish WHO you want to BE
  • Behold in your minds eye the person you want to become
  • Model the person you want to become – traits, attributes etc.
  • Start seeing yourself as competent, successful and unstoppable
  • Learn new self talk – affirmations like, “I’m the best”, “I can do it” etc.
  • Write 300 powerful reasons why you should develop this new self image of success
  • Develop massive awareness to ensure your self image is consistent with your goals

Not discounting the other modes, our world is largely made of images.  As masters of our thoughts we can choose the mental imagery which either support or sabotage our success.  Decide to make better choices today.

Self discipline is probably the achilles heel in most peoples ambition.  Here are some ideas to help you.

  • Reduce or stop the distractions – Yes, this includes all the social media unless you earn a living from it.  They are time thieves that often add little or no value. 
  • Establish a well planned routine that challenges your greatness
  • Take big goals and reduce them into small tasks – bite size chunks, one at at a time
  • Commit to working harder and smarter than anyone else you know
  • DTW – Do the work, swallow the slug now and party later…
  • When procrastination bites, bite back with energy and enthusiasm…DTW
  • Become the most responsible and accountable person you know
  • Do what unsuccessful people wont do

Remember, you can either live in the shadow of someone else’s greatness or bask in your own glory.  By mastering Self discipline your success is inevitable.

Your Self Confidence is really the sum total of all the above.  When your Self esteem, Self image and Self discipline are aligned, Self Confidence builds.  After you have enjoyed success and you understand the success formula, everything you touch turns to gold.

The keys to all success is consistency and frequency. Ask any body builder how many reps he does daily?  Ask a professional golfer how many balls she puts in a single practice?  Ask any professional pitcher how many balls he pitches at practice?
