VINESH MAHARAJ – 4 Keys to Unlock Your Success

MONDAY MENTAL PROTEIN: BE AWESOME. Kick average in the teeth and aim for the moon…

The first month of the year is history. Many were happy to see the back of 2015 and are excited about a new year with new prospects and possibilities. Many celebrated success and achievement in 2015 meeting their goals and objectives; yet so many languish in middle class suburban mediocrity…the ever-miserable average.be-awesome

What is average? Average means neither here, nor there. It means run of the mill. It means somewhere in the middle…neither here nor there. Average at school or university means, you’re not first, nor are you last, somewhere in the middle…again. In earnings it means you aren’t rich, nor are you poor. In age, it means you aren’t old, or young. Like a no mans land. It’s like sitting at a border post between countries. It’s like splitting your vote at elections 50% left and 50% right. Does average, start feeling and tasting distasteful to you? It’s undefined, limiting and frustrating.

If not, just imagine catching the latest average movie, written, produced and directed by the most average. Where after, you catch an average dinner, at an average restaurant prepared by an average chef. The drinks were average, as were the starters and don’t hold your breath…with your average date. How do you expect the night to end? Boombastic, fireworks, mind-blowing tantric yoga?

If you want 2016 to be “The Year”, much has to change. First and fore-mostly your commitment to burning “average, nice, okay and acceptable”. These are the new “fats, sugar, salt and gluten” that you need to eradicate from your thought and speak. Go on a mental health diet that rejects these from your mind, your standards and expectations. As soon as you perceive them, know its time to change, change something. As American motivational speaker and author Zig Ziglar used to say be “Better than Good”. It’s time to embrace a new reality where you, are the star of your show. Where the lights are brighter, your sound track is crystal clear, where the colours pop and words spoken are songs, where the walking is dancing and there is energy and passion in all that you do. No matter how you feel, regardless of the weather or the economy, for those should never own your state of focused, intentional commitment to living your life large and in charge.

Now contrast that with a thrilling movie written, produced, directed by a team of visionary movie makers who challenge the boundaries and take you on an exhilarating journey, along with your breathtakingly beautiful date, an exceptional meal under candle light by a renowned, much sought after chef at a premier restaurant, where the ambiance is only enhanced by the tastes, sights and sounds you consume. The night air is crisp and clear, the stars are dancing in the moonlight and you feel like a teenager in love once again…

If you want to live, then now is the time. New years are nothing more than you getting older and one year closer to the end. Or, new years could signal the new you. Committed. Passionate. All in…Kick average in the teeth and aim for the moon. Should you fail, best you land among the stars. How bad can that be. Take back your life and kick average in the teeth.

VINESH MAHARAJ – Avoiding Problem People

MONDAY MENTAL PROTEIN: DISSONANCE

Vinesh Maharaj DissonanceOften times you may find yourself wondering, even feeling highly frustrated, with little or no room, options or opportunities to maneuver in securing the much coveted prize…Your personal or professional success.

This feeling of total dissatisfaction or frustration with the status quo is referred to as dissonance.

The dictionary defines DISSONANCE as:

“A lack of harmony among musical notes” AND “A lack of agreement or harmony between people or things”.

In our development, dissonance is the incongruence with our potential and our results.

Why is dissonance so important you may ask?  Well, simply put it’s the precursor to all greatness.  Many of man’s greatest discoveries were based on massive dissonance.  Our frustration with the cold and the inability to cook, led to the discovery of fire by primitive man.  The frustration with having to replace lamps with oil or gas led to the discovery of electricity.  The frustration with snail mail led to the discovery and creation of email.  The frustration of the encyclopedia led to the discovery and creation of Google.  So clearly dissonance played a great role in all the greatest creations, innovations and discoveries  that have taken man from the dark age into the current age.  Dissonance makes you move in the direction of your goals.

Dissonance is the driving factor across all disciplines:

The golfer who wants to improve his handicap.

The athlete who wants to improve her time.

The businessman wants to improve his bottom-line…

They’re all driven by their unhappiness with the status quo to improve, better and achieve up to their potential.

As you go along your business today reflect on all the matters that are close to your heart and ask yourself do you have a high enough degree of frustration to want to make lasting and meaningful change?

Here is how to use your dissonance in the direction of your goals…

  1. Learn from nature – Go to the soil with your seed, not with your need.  Everyone wants and needs a shopping list, but how many plant seeds for future needs?
  2. Sow more than you reap – Stop asking, whats in it for me.
  3. Translate your wisdom into action – Knowing is not enough, doing is not enough.  Heart and mind union causes results, so know more, do more and achieve more.
  4. Nurture and guard your “garden” – don’t let the mad elephant into the room.  It will destroy you and your harvest.

MONDAY MENTAL PROTEIN: Youth-Preneurship

EntrepreneurBeing youth month in South Africa, I want to focus on Youth-Preneurship. Without being too clichéd, we’ve all heard before that “the children are the future”.  As such what type of future will they inherit or create?

If we continue at the current rate, we will run into serious trouble in the future. We have serious challenges with unemployment, crime, poverty, longevity and ultimately personal happiness and fulfillment.

Today I want to share with you 3 points on how you can start, develop and grow your Youth business from home, school or your garage.

1. Find the need…

There are literally hundreds of needs all around you.  Needs for goods and services.  Needs for solutions.  By solving peoples problems you solve your own money problems.  Focus on high-quality, high profitability opportunities.

Here are some examples to get your creative juices flowing:

Schools, businesses and homes in your area require stationery on the daily basis…Pens, pencils, writing pads, invoicing books, reading books, curriculum books etc.  Register your company , speak to your principal or governing body to partner with them.   Offer them a partnership they can’t resist.  Offer them cost savings (competitive pricing), a small profit share in the form of a donation (please check for legality prior), or sponsor the schools rugby team on their next tour.  Offer them more value (while keeping some for yourself) than they can get from a competitor.

Find a manufacturing supplier who can give you competitive prices and high quality which you can pass onto your school.  Now find just 10 – 100 more schools and you’re into a serious business with serious prospects of a bright future.

Grow fresh produce on your school or communal grounds (get the right authorization before hand).  Seeds cost little to nothing.  If you’re really smart, get them sponsored by the local nursery.  Add labour, a bit of education about crop rearing, soil fertilization, irrigation and viola!  You have perhaps the freshest produce to offer to parents, local shops, restaurants and even super markets.  With the right mentorship and guidance, you could launch your path to entrepreneurial wealth, job creation and the passage to big business requiring farm lands, hi-tech equipment, irrigation systems, logistics and distribution systems.

Start a bespoke cupcake birthday business.  Try to supply every birthday at your school.  Then supply the church, temple, mosque, synagogue with their birthdays and special occasions and events.  If they’re really good cupcakes and are value for money, beware…success can be sweet.

Showcase Birthday parties with your DSLR and sell them only the pics they want?  Package various options and snap away.  Photography can be a great way to start, but real business occurs when you have an army of school going photographers working for you.  You find the leads, make the sales and collect the cash…you own the business, your staff do the work.  Find the need, fill the gap and prosper.

2.  Beat the Competition – There is always competition.

To find a spouse you have to competeTo land a job you have to compete… Competition is about the survival of the fittest.   It’s an ancient reality of “adapt or die…”  By harnessing this law while in your youth it allows you to grow through rapidly changing environments, it forces you to outwit, outsmart and outplay your competition.  You win by adding value.  You win by staying relevant.  You win by being flexible and adaptable in an ever-changing environment.  Find ways of adding value and you will have customers to serve.  “Every oak tree started out as a couple of nuts who stood their ground”.

3.  Innovate, create…

You can start today by innovating and creating new products and services that the market has never seen before.  Think Facebook, Twitter…develop your own app?  Think about the cell phone? Twenty years ago we were in the stone ages…today mobile communication is at your finger tips.  Think about products that people use every day that can be improved such as the electric toothbrush, razor blades, tooth paste.  They’re always “new and improved” but don’t create any new results, yet you always pay more for them.  Create something really “new and improved” and steal away the market.  Create apps for parents such as “track my kids”,  so that parents can monitor the whereabouts of their children 24/7.  Develop an app you can tie back to your cellphone, so you never lose you keys again, ever!!!  Solve problems, make millions…Mark Zuckerberg solved communications and social interactions through taking them online…Oops, he is a billionaire in $’s!!!

Innovation and creation does not lend itself to new products and services exclusively.  You can  add on value to existing products and services, launching your business from that platform.   Someone found a way to take an age old commodity like vodka which has been drunk for hundreds and thousands of years and repackaged it in an innovative, creative way.  I’ve seen blue bottles, silver bottles, black bottles, square bottles, triangular bottles and even skull shaped bottles of vodka! Same old wine in a new bottle…smiling all the way to the banks.

Note that these are just some ideas for your early stages of business growth and development. ..As business grows, so should you…Remember that ideas are a “rhyme a dime” but execution is king!

Wishing you youthful entrepreneurs immediate and sustained success.  Keep on, keeping on.  Signing off in the words of Steve Jobs “Stay Foolish, Stay Hungry!!!

MONDAY MENTAL PROTEIN: Pain or Pleasure? What Drives You?

NLPAll human decisions and acts are to either avoid pain or to enjoy pleasure.  Yet, what seems painful to one person may be pleasurable to another such as the recent Comrades marathon.  Thousands of people felt drawn to the pain of the event in pursuit of the pleasure in completing it.  Some people have a high threshold for pain in the form of poverty, obesity, unhappiness etc.  Others in fear of those, do all they can to accelerate the great escape from pain.  Others are instantly attracted to the pleasure of wealth, a slim and trim physique and chooses emotional wellness over unhappiness.

Everything we do is to either enjoy the suffering of pain (self inflicted or complicit) or to enjoy the pleasure of achieving.  According to Anthony Robbins and the practitioners of Neuro Linguistic Programming, all humans have Six Basic Needs in a sequence and combination which is unique to you.  So ask your self what drives you?

Here are the six basic human needs that drives behaviour…

1. Certainty: Some people are seeking the assurance that they can avoid pain and enjoy pleasure.  Some of us even want to be certain of our appointment with death.

2. Uncertainty OR Variety: This is the need for the variety of the unknown or the requirement of change or some new stimulus.  These are generally people with the need for new and ongoing adventures.

3. Significance: This is the need to feel unique, important, special or needed by others.

4. Connection OR Love: Here we speak of needing a strong feeling of closeness or union with someone, family or community and sometimes something such as a brand.

5. Growth:  This the need for expansion of capacity, ability or understanding.  The need for continuous growth, development and learning…

6. Contribution: This is a sense of service and focus on helping, giving to and supporting others who are in need.  We are driven by wanting to making a difference in the lives of others.

Your task is to understand the following:

  1. Which of these drive you most?  In what sequence?
  2. How do you meet these needs.  Are your actions positive or negative in fulfilling them?
  3. What can you do from today to focus on your growth and contribution?

By understanding what drives you, you can create new patterns of excellence which can serve you, creating lasting success.

Peak personal performance comes from understanding your drivers, whilst overcoming your limitations, transcending the mediocre and embracing your potential for the complete and ultimate breakthrough, giving you Personal Mastery.

MONDAY MENTAL PROTEIN – This is Deeply Personal

The gift of life starts at conception and is generally joyous occasion welcoming into the world your new born.  Many a parent will know the joys of a new born child. The parents plan, hope, and bank all their dreams and aspirations on their new born. All parents want for their children what they themselves could not have as kids. These shape up in the form of academic, career, marital success and so forth.

The child goes on to become their own person pursuing their own dreams and aspirations. Ask any child their career aspirations and the answers could be anything from Dr. to lawyer, teacher, scientist, business person etc. with sincere belief that it is possible for them. Their innocence is soon smashed by the so called “reality”. Children have their creativity stolen in the classroom by “colouring in the lines”, by following the sheep or conforming to a process, instead of finding their own process while still coming to the same conclusions as taught in school. Originality, creativity and possibility are slowly but surely reduced to minimalism and as you know all breakthroughs in all fields are by people who broke the mold and were non conformists in their thinking. Ask Steve Jobs, Mother Theresa, Nelson Mandela if they conformed…
We, parents are then further guilty of tearing down the child’s self belief. The first words we teach our children is not “mom” and “dad”. Rather it is NO and DON’T. We repeat these words thousands of times through the life of the child and we wonder why people have low self belief? Let me tell you why…The parents with good intentions to protect the child are always shouting “NO” and “DON’T”. “No! Don’t play in the street”, “Don’t play with fire”. “Don’t play with the TV”, “Don’t put your finger in the electrical socket” etc, etc, etc. Parents intend to protect their children from harm, death and financial pain but never spend a moment explaining and educating the child due to the child’s lack of understanding and development in its early years. The child grows up thinking “I m not good enough”, “nothing I do is right”, “nothing I do is good enough”.

The saga continues into childhood. At school we all know how mean kids can be. Name calling, bullying and shaming happens daily and the child withdraws into the protective shell low self esteem, low self belief and low self confidence. The matter progresses further in that we are always compared to siblings, family or friends. “Why cant you be more like your brother”, “your cousins studying to become a Dr., what are you studying”…Then comes love and as I always say, first romances always end in tragedy. Ask Romeo and Juliet…Hormones rage, so does fear of change yet emotions mature. We all have ended up heart broken, there are no exceptions.

At school, some teachers drive down your self esteem and confidence…instead of uplifting and teaching you, they speak down to you and ridicule you, not because you are a slow learner…perhaps because they are poor teachers? If life is an on going painful fight for your psychological existence of self esteem, self belief and self confidence how are you to shine like the star that you are? While this may fuel the quitter in you and may justify why you are still playing small, living in your shadows and are not living true to your potential and neither living your dream life, the time has come…the time has come for you to take 100% ownership and responsibility for your life. You cant blame your parents, friends, teachers and others for your failures or surrender to mediocrity. You can only take responsibility for both where you are and where you want to be.

This is deeply personal to both you and I. Just imagine having unlimited self esteem, self belief and self confidence to cast off the shadows of failure and adopt the light of possibility? Just imagine if you walked into your dream career, where you are making a meaningful difference in the lives of the people you served? Imagine creating your dream life and living true to your potential? Imagine all that was possible for you happening right now? You know what I would say? I would say “WAKE UP”!!! Imagination alone will not take you there.

What if you sacrificed just a few months of your life to craft your dream body, your financial status, your dream partner, your dream home, your emotional independence and financial success? The time is going to pass anyway…if you do nothing, you get nothing. Do something, do something spectacular, something phenomenal, something inspiring, something hair raising. The alternative is to play dead…eat, sleep, work, commute, rest, entertain and start again…where is the fireworks in that I ask you???

Andrew Carnegie “If you want to be happy, set a goal that commands your thoughts, liberates your energy & inspires your hopes”. If you want to create fireworks, want to feel like you can walk on water and achieve fabulous results in your life don’t delay. The time is NOW! Ke Nako!

MONDAY MENTAL PROTEIN: Your Personal Mastery

Vinesh Maharaj Personal Mastery 28 March 2015Personal greatness or mastery is a personal journey to self awareness, commitment and improvement in one or many key result areas such as ones health, wealth, career, relationships etc.  It’s a commitment to being all that you can be, while doing whatever it takes to live a life fulfilled with hope, ambition and clarity of purpose.  It is living ones highest values, purposefully whilst scoring hat tricks in your dream life.

Today I wish to share some insightful truths about Your Personal Mastery:

One – Your habits define you

Habits are like CD’s.  The tracks are in-grooved or ingrained yet are invisible to the naked eye.  Habits form over time through repeated actions.  Aristotle said “We are what we repeatedly do.  Excellence, therefore, is not an act, but a habit”.

Choose good habits or your old ones may either destroy you completely or lead you down the garden path of mediocrity.  Here is how:

1.  Stop to identify your foremost habits…

2.  Then ask how they serve you?  Does it bring guts, glory and results?  Or does it just bring you escapism, pain and regret?

3.  Choose a better way.  Choose not just to give up the bad habit but rather to master the better habit.  Don’t spend all day focused on the problem.  Rather go to work on the solution.  Should you defer back to you old habit time and again as is expected just brush yourself off and recommit to mastering the new habit.  Work on mastering the habit.

Two – Seek and Ye shall find

Become world class at asking.  There is no shame in asking for what you want.  Be it from yourself or others.  The Bible says;  “Ask, and it shall be given to you, Seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened to you”.

Everyone is looking for answers or solutions, yet not many know how to find them.  The great secret is quality questions.  In the world, asking is the skill to getting all that you want from life.  The quality of your life is dependent on the quality of your questions.  Remember; he who leads the questions, dictates the direction.  Here is how:

1.  Have clarity in outcomes.  Ask for exactly what you want.  Don’t skirt around issues.

2.  Ask, seek and knock, again and again…should I say that again?  Ask incessantly.  As you improve the skill of asking, seeking and knocking…people and opportunities will come in search of you.  Trust and be prepared

3.  All health, wealth and success in all of life’s key result areas are available to everyone.  By learning to ask better questions you master tapping into them.  Your questions will lead you to WHO can assist you, WHERE to get help, HOW to succeed, WHAT to do, WHEN to proceed.  All you require is a WHY that’s big enough to drive your success.  Seek and Ye shall find!

Three – Play like Clapton

Eric Clapton who many regard as one of the worlds foremost guitarists is a musical genius or hero to many generations with hits like  “Wonderful tonight”, “Layla” and “Tears in Heaven”.   Eric Clapton known as “Slow Hand”, sure is not slow in any sense of the word.  He is a genius of mastery.  Ask yourself what are you mastering?  What is your genius?  There is genius in all of us.  Maths genius, chess genius, business genius, sporting genius, musical genius…the list is endless.

“Everybody is a genius.  But if you judge a fish by its ability to climb a tree, it will believe it’s whole life that it is stupid”, said Albert Einstein.  Unleash your genius.  Here is how:

1.  Don’t live other peoples dreams.  Live your own.  The music is already within you.  You just have to listen for the beat, the bass line, the rhythm…and let the lyrics flow forth.  Just play like Clapton and write your own path.

2.  Love what you do.  Don’t get caught making a living while hating yourself for surrendering your genius.  Can you imagine how frustrated Clapton would have been in a corporate office chained to the golden handcuffs of a cushy salary, company benefits and a thirteenth cheque?

3.  Mastery pays.  Get rewarded.  The best in all fields are handsomely paid.  How does a salary compare to a sold out Wembley stadium?  Ask Eric Clapton.  He made millions of pounds last year.

In the final analysis all mastery is within your grasp.

“Leave behind shoes no man can fill” read a recent Harley Davidson advertisement.  To help you succeed, the upcoming Vinesh Maharaj Personal Mastery Workshop will assist you to live true to your dreams and potential.
